Frequently Asked Questions

Q.
How much water can the WaterMaker Mini produce in one day?
A.
Your unit will produce approximately 10 gallons per day depending upon the feed water pressure, water temperature and TDS (total dissolved solids).
-
Q.
Where does the "pure" (product) water come out?
A.
The product water is delivered from the stainless steel outlet on the system cap (remove the black plastic cover and attach a length of tubing to deliver the water into an appropriate container). The water should be a slow stream or steady drip.
-
Q.
Why is there a stream of water coming out of the bottom of the unit?
A.
The water coming out of the bottom of the unit is the concentrated brine or wastewater. It is made up of anything the membrane rejects (salts, lead, hard water ions, cysts) plus a portion of the tap water that works as a carrier for these contaminants. Normal flow from the brine port is a sharp, steady stream.
-
Q.
Is the WaterMaker Mini just for drinking water?
A.
Use the WaterMaker Mini to make water for a variety of uses. Use the product water to make coffee and tea, ice, wash vegetables, water plants, boil pasta, fill the iron - anything that would benefit from the use of purified water.
-
Q.
Do I need to take a mineral supplement to make up for the minerals the WaterMaker removes from the water?
A.
The WaterMaker Mini does a great job of removing lead, sodium and the hardness ions like calcium carbonate. Your body does not need these hardness ions or contaminants. A normal, healthy diet will supply all the minerals you need.
-
Q.
How long can I store drinking water?
A.
Drinking water that has been thoroughly disinfected can be stored indefinitely in clean, capped plastic or glass containers. Be careful to use containers that will not make the water taste bad--trial and error is best here, but often containers made out of polypropylene or plastics labeled as "food grade" will suit the purpose. Because the taste will become "flat" after extended storage, periodic replacement is recommended. If possible, storage in a refrigerator or other cool area (basement or cellar) is recommended.
-
Q.
Will using the water produced by my WaterMaker Mini make clear ice cubes?
A.
Commercially made ice is stirred as it is frozen; household ice is not. Without mixing, many more ice crystals form, and air is trapped in the ice. These bubbles and crystals distort light rays, thus giving home-frozen ice a cloudy appearance. To minimize the cloudy appearance, fill your ice cube trays with WaterMaker Mini product water, let them stand on the counter for 10 minutes or so, and place in the freezer. Your ice cubes will be noticeably clearer, harder and better tasting!
How To Replace the Membrane Cartridge in Your WaterMaker Mini
It is easy to replace the membrane cartridge in your WaterMaker Mini. Just follow these six simple steps.

1) If connected, remove WaterMaker Mini from faucet.

2) Unscrew cap assembly from unit. Try to do this over the sink, as a small amount of water will come out of the unit.

3) Remove old membrane from unit. Membrane may be difficult to remove. If so, carefully insert corkscrew into membrane and lift out. Discard old membrane. See Figure 1

4) Check to make sure the large black O-ring is completely seated in the groove of the cap. Note the recess in the cap that is encircled by the o-ring groove wall. See Figure 2.
5) Insert new membrane into the cap.

6) Twist the membrane into the cap clockwise one or two turns to ensure the membrane is seated properly. See Figure 3. (The membrane seal should not overlap the large o-ring in the cap. There should be a continuous ring of white visible between the black membrane seal and the black o-ring.)

7) Reattach cap assembly to unit. See Figure 4. Attach cap securely. Do not overtighten. Reattach WaterMaker Mini to faucet. Turn on water slowly. Let water run for 4 hours before collecting drinking water.
